Visitng Grace in the Desert

We would LOVE for you to join us for worship! We use full bulletins in our weekend services so that you can know what is going on and fully enter the worship of God with us.

What can I expect in worship?

We have three regular weekend services, each with a unique style of worship. The structure of or worship stays the same:

  • Opening Prayer
  • Lessons from Scripture
  • Preaching
  • Prayers of the People
  • Sharing the Peace of Christ
  • Holy Communion
  • Sending

What are your core beliefs?

We believe in and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world. Episcopalians are many and diverse people, who come together in Christ through our worship, our common prayer.

We believe:

  • Jesus of Nazareth is the only Son of God,  sent to free us from the power of sin, so that with the help of God we may live in harmony with God, within ourselves, with our neighbors, and with all creation.
  • The Trinity is one God: Father,  Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the revealed Word of God, containing all things necessary for salvation. God inspired human authors and God still speaks to us through the Bible.
  • All people are beloved and created in the image of God. As Christians, we are called to witness to the love of God made known to us in Jesus through how we love and serve our neghbors, respecting the dignity of every person.
  • Our basic beliefs about God are stated in the Apostles' Creed, the first-century creed of Holy Baptism, and the Nicene Creed,  the fourth-century sufficient statement of the Christian Faith.
  • Sacraments are outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace. The two great sacraments given by Christ are Baptism and the Supper of the Lord. We also recognize other spiritual markers in our journey of faith: confirmation, private confession, Christian marriage, ordination of bishops, deacons, priests, and ministry with the sick and dying.
  • The Church is led and unified through the Historic Episcopate, locally adapted. Grace is led by the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada, the Right Reverend Elizabeth Bonforte-Gardner.

What services are offered throughout the week?

Holy Eucharist is offered Saturdays at 4p, Sundays at 8a, and 10:30a

Morning Prayer is offered Tuesdays at 8:30a

Healing Evening Prayer with Holy Communion is offered Wednesdays at 6p

Major Feasts are celebrated at 10a

What programs do you offer for children and youth?

The 10:30a service is the heart of our ministry for children and youth. We have a Sunday School program for children ages 4-9 and 10-13 during the service. Our youth serve as crucifers, acolytes, and lectors in worship. This service also includes a weekly Children's Sermon after Holy Communion.

Our Middle School and High School Youth Groups meet separately once a month, as well as together occassionally. Both Youth Groups meet outside of worship services.

We have several Community Events that are programs for children and youth: Trunk or Treat, Nativity Pageant, Shrove Tuesday, and Vacation Bible School.

We offer a six-week class on preparation for the sacrament of Holy Baptism up to four times per year (all ages). A seven-week class on preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation or Reception is offered once a year (ages 15+).

What is the dress code?

Come as you are! Some of us wear dresses with heals and some of us wear jeans and sandals. You will see suits, business casual, and casual wear at any service. We believe God shows up when we gather, regardless of what we're wearing.

Are there opportunities for fellowship or social events?

Grace is full of opportunities to gather outside of worship. We regularly share meals in the Parish Hall so that we can get to know each other better. We have a dinner social gathering on the second Saturday of the month. We attend events in the community together, such as ball games, movies, and concerts. Annual events include a dance party in February, a pancake breakfast on July 4, a campout/picnic in August, a gala in September, and a Christmas brunch in December.

Do you offer counseling or pastoral care services?

Yes, our clergy offer pastoral counseling and visits for all.
