Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church supports the Boy Scouts of America with both Pack and Troops for children and teens of all abilities. Indoor and outdoor activities that promote character, leadership, volunteerism, and service to Country are offered. Pack 770 is a family pack with both boys and girls ages 5 to 11. Troop 770 B&G are separate troops for boys and girls age 11 to 18. Pack 770 B & G are part of the LV Area Council covering Nevada, Arizona, and California.

The Outreach Committee supports Camp Galilee (an Episcopal youth camp at Lake Tahoe) by providing funds to send children from urban areas to Camp Galilee to experience he beautiful surroundings on Lake Tahoe.

Our Loaves and Fishes Ministry supports now supports Desert Springs United Methodist Church Food Bank in Summerlin and is organized by Brenda Griego and The Rev Cammie Houpt.

This ministry provides non-perishable foods in support to the food bank for those who suffer from nutritional scarcity. Grace in the Desert participates by donating to weekly and monthly food drives. Please bring your non-perishable, and nutritious food contributions to church when you come to worship each week, Place them in the basket in the Narthex to the right as you enter the church.

Grace in the Desert supports the Las Vegas Family Promise/Just Neighbors Support Network program.

This program provides assistance to families in transition with temporary accommodation.

Just Neighbors Support Network provides essential support needs, i.e. food, household goods.

“Friend” calls to the client as needed basis.

Nevadans for the Common Good is an affiliate of the Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), the nation’s oldest and largest leadership development and organizing network. The IAF bases its work on the idea that a healthy democracy requires the active participation of ordinary people. Nevadans for the Common Good is a broad-based network of local institutions-- faith-based, non-profit, educational, labor, and civic organizations-- that come together to develop leaders, identify shared issues affecting our communities, and take action around these issues. Member institutions pay dues to ensure that NCG has a secure and independent core budget and is primarily accountable to its own constituents.

Nevadans for the Common Good is strictly non-partisan and is multi-issue. Our member institutions work together to develop our local agendas by engaging constituents, both within and across our institutions, in conversations about the issues affecting their families, neighborhoods and communities. By joining with other institutions that have similar goals and concerns, NCG members increase their collective power and work to achieve victories on local and regional issues.

A new school year is just around the corner, and this year we are collecting supplies for Project 150. Project 150 is a local non-profit organization that supports homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students city wide at no cost to the student.

Please support these students in the hopes of a successful school year and a brighter future. A needs list of school supplies and hygiene items is posted on the bulletin board - donations will be collected in the Narthex in the basket designated for “Project 150”.

In 2017 Grace in the Desert contracted with Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada to provide refugee resettlement assistance. Since then the Refugee Resettlement Committee, working closely with Catholic Charities, has helped resettle more than 40 at risk refugees legally entering the United States. This ministry’s work, among other acts of service, includes:

• Receiving, holding and delivering donated furniture.
• Shopping for/delivering required household items and food.
• Setting up refugee apartments.
• Meeting refugees at the Airport, accompanying them to their new home, and providing a culturally appropriate first meal.
• Introducing refugees to the Las Vegas area, including our beautiful park areas and the Strip.
• Driving refugees to required appointments at Catholic Charities, medical offices, etc.
• The Committee members visit our refugee families when appropriate.

In the fall of 2022, Grace was privileged to have Epiphany Episcopal Church join with it as a partner in support of this ministry's work.
